R.I.P.

This page is not what you think, or then again perhaps it is. Sometimes we all need a peaceful place to unwind so this is a place to come if you need to REST IN PEACE. I will be posting pictures here that reflect the solitude of nature, make you feel warm and fuzzy, or just bring a smile to your face. Some of these pictures will be photographs we have taken, other times they will be stock photos I purchase from websites like Big Stock Photos or IStock. You will find I have a soft spot in my heart for children, babies, and animals. They always make me smile.

The picture I’m posting today was taken a couple of weeks ago. The subject is small island named Goat Island. The location of the island is in my home town of Longview, Washington. Goat Island is one of several small islands in Lake Sacajawea, a man made lake surrounded by a beautifully landscaped park, and four miles of walking trails in the middle of our city. Lake Sacajawea is the pride of our community and I am privileged to own a home that directly faces the lake front. We have beautiful view year-round, but I especially love the fall colors. Our home is directly across from Goat Island and another island that has been transformed into a Japanese Garden.

You will never find the name Goat Island written on any official city documents, the name just evolved over the years. It’s the only island in the lake that is left in it’s natural state to provide a nesting site for the ducks and a home for other water fowl. It attracts many Red-Winged Blackbirds and there are a couple of Red Tail Hawk nests in old snag trees. Last spring we saw an Osprey checking out the territory but sadly it didn’t nest there. The island inherited the name for the practice of periodically grazing goats on the island to thin out the underbrush.

Over time I will be posting more pictures for you to enjoy. I hope you will find this a place of solitude, where you can just unwind or find a smile after a hectic day. That is what I need today…after weeks of volunteering for the Barrack Obama campaign I just need some quiet time to unwind and celebrate a new day that brings exciting change. Regardless of party affiliations, or how you view the outcome of the 2008 election, it was clearly a sign that Americans took their voting responsibility seriously. What monumental milestones we have just witnessed in the history of our country.
